Speaking
WHAT IF THE PARTS OF YOURSELF YOU'VE LEARNED TO HIDE ARE THE VERY PARTS THAT MAKE YOU GREAT?
The mistakes.
The flaws.
The messy middle of life.
The things that didn't exactly go to plan.
We spend so much of life learning who we're supposed to be.
BUT WHAT IF WE'VE GOT IT ALL WRONG?

WE ALL HAVE A STORY.
Some of it we chose.
Some of it happened to us.
Some came from what other people told us about who we should be.
So, we adapt.
We fit in.
We hide things.
And sometimes we become so good at being who we think we're supposed to be... we forget to ask who we actually want to be.
"YOUR GREATEST ASSET IS YOUR ABILITY TO BE YOURSELF" - Donna Martin
Your mistakes don't define you.
Your past doesn't get to decide who you become next.
And somebody else's story about you doesn't have to become your own.
AT ANY AGE.
AT ANY STAGE.
YOU STILL GET TO CHOOSE.

SOME OF MY GREATEST LESSONS ABOUT LIFE CAME AT THE END OF SOMEONE ELSE'S.
For more than 15 years, I worked as a nurse.
I cared for hundreds of people at the end of their lives.
And when everything else fell away, I saw what mattered.
People wanted to know they'd lived.
That they'd loved.
That they'd experienced life.
Nobody's life was perfect.
There were mistakes. Detours. Things they would have done differently.
But that's what made it a life.
And it changed the way I looked at mine.
And it changed the way I looked at mine.
WHAT ARE WE SO AFRAID OF GETTING WRONG?
We avoid the chance because we might fail.
We stay quiet because we might be judged.
We hide because we're not sure we'll be accepted.
And staying safe can slowly start deciding how we live.
LIFE ISN'T A STRAIGHT LINE.
We try.
We get things wrong.
We learn.
We change.
We begin again.
That's not failing at life.
THAT'S PARTICIPATING IN IT.

DARING TO BE YOU
A speaking experience about the stories we carry, the masks we wear and what becomes possible when we give ourselves permission to show up more honestly as ourselves.
It isn't about being perfect.
It isn't about having everything figured out.
It's about becoming aware enough to choose.
BECAUSE WE DON'T LEAVE WHO WE ARE AT THE DOOR.
We bring ourselves into our teams.
Our leadership.
Our conversations.
Our decisions.
When we're afraid of failure, we can stop trying.
When we're afraid of judgement, we can stop speaking.
When we're afraid to be ourselves, we can start hiding.
WHAT COULD CHANGE IF MORE PEOPLE FELT ABLE TO SHOW UP AS THEMSELVES?
A TALK PEOPLE CAN SEE THEMSELVES IN.
Real stories.
Honest conversations.
Humour.
Vulnerability.
And moments that make people stop and think:
“Hang on... I've never thought about it like that.”
“Hang on... I've never thought about it like that.”
Donna doesn't tell people who they should be.
She creates the space for them to start asking themselves.
